An Infrastructure Summer - 2003 for elementary school students
June 11 - August 6, 2003 |
Institute Director Dave Schulz taught the first nine-session class in infrastructure to first through sixth graders this summer at the Country Meadows Montessori School in Gurnee, Illinois. The class consisted of classroom discussions, projects and field trips to a local road project, airport, and the Illinois Railway Museum, rides on a Metra commuter rail train and CTA rapid transit train, and a Chicago River boat trip. It is hoped the results of this experimental class will allow the Institute, other elementary schools, and professional organizations to do a better job of teaching young school children what infrastructure is and its importance to modern society. A CD containing presentations, photos and videos documenting the course was provided to the participants. |
